Compress an image to 500 KB

Half a megabyte is enough for a sharp full-width web image or a detailed document scan. This preset keeps as much resolution and quality as the limit allows and only trims dimensions when it must.

75–85 is visually lossless for most photos; lower values trade detail for bytes.

1 KB = 1,000 bytes. A strict target may lower quality and then dimensions; the final size is measured, not estimated.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Add the photos that exceed your 500 KB limit; a whole batch is fine.
  2. 2Keep JPG for photographs, or choose WebP for a modern website.
  3. 3Process, compare each pair of sizes, and download individually or as a ZIP.

Before you download

  • Most 12-megapixel phone photos reach 500 KB at quality 75–85 while keeping their full dimensions.
  • If you also need a maximum width for a content management system, set it in the resize fields and the tool will use it before lowering quality.
  • Lossless PNG screenshots with large flat areas often already fit; a photo saved as PNG usually needs converting to JPG or WebP.

Typical uses

  • Blog hero images and gallery photos.
  • Marketplace listings with a per-photo limit.
  • Sharing a set of event photos by email.

Your images stay on your device

This page processes images with your browser's canvas. Files are not uploaded to FileShareFast or anyone else, and your originals are never modified. Sharing is a separate, deliberate step: nothing is sent until you continue to the upload page and create a link yourself.

Re-encoding writes pixel data only, so EXIF and other metadata are not copied into outputs. Animated images are processed from their first frame. Check important images before submitting or printing them.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 500 KB photo still print well?

For a 6 × 4 inch print at 300 DPI you need about 1800 × 1200 pixels, which a JPG at quality 80 usually keeps under 500 KB. Check the reported dimensions on the result card; if they dropped, raise the limit or lower quality instead.

Why is my PNG output larger than 500 KB warning shown?

PNG cannot trade quality for size. When PNG is selected the tool can only reduce dimensions to meet a target. Switch to JPG or WebP for photographs.

Does the batch limit apply here?

Yes: 12 images at 25 MB each per run, within the batch size shown above the uploader. Larger sets can simply be processed in several runs.
