Convert PNG to WebP
PNG keeps transparency but photographs and large illustrations saved as PNG can be enormous. WebP preserves the alpha channel at a fraction of the size, which makes it ideal for logos, UI assets, and product cut-outs.
How to use this tool
- 1Add PNG files, including ones with transparent backgrounds.
- 2Keep quality high (90+) for logos and graphics, or lower it for photographic PNGs.
- 3Convert and check the transparent areas in the preview, which is shown over a checkerboard.
Before you download
- Transparency is preserved automatically; the background option is only applied when you pick a colour.
- Text and line art survive best at quality 90–100. Photographs saved as PNG can usually go to 80.
- A tiny PNG icon may already be smaller than its WebP version. The result warns you when the output grew.
Typical uses
- Logos and icons for a fast-loading website.
- Product photos with cut-out backgrounds.
- App store screenshots that must stay under a size cap.
- Accepts
- PNG (other still formats also accepted)
- Produces
- WebP
Your images stay on your device
This page processes images with your browser's canvas. Files are not uploaded to FileShareFast or anyone else, and your originals are never modified. Sharing is a separate, deliberate step: nothing is sent until you continue to the upload page and create a link yourself.
Re-encoding writes pixel data only, so EXIF and other metadata are not copied into outputs. Animated images are processed from their first frame. Check important images before submitting or printing them.
Frequently asked questions
Does WebP support transparency like PNG?
Yes. WebP has an 8-bit alpha channel, so soft shadows and semi-transparent edges survive the conversion. The preview displays a checkerboard so you can confirm the result before downloading.
Is WebP lossless?
WebP has both lossy and lossless modes. Browser canvas encoders produce lossy WebP controlled by the quality slider; at 100 the output is visually indistinguishable for most graphics but not mathematically identical.
Why convert PNG at all?
PNG photographs are often 5–10 times larger than needed. Smaller files mean faster pages, lower bandwidth costs, and better Core Web Vitals scores.
