Make an image square
Many profile systems, marketplaces, and grids expect square images. Pad the picture onto a square canvas so nothing is lost, or crop to fill when a tight frame looks better.
How to use this tool
- 1Add images in any shape.
- 2Choose 'Pad' to keep the whole image on a coloured square, or 'Crop to fill' to trim the edges.
- 3Set the square size, process, and download.
Before you download
- Padding with a background colour is the only way to make a square without losing part of the picture.
- For transparent padding, choose PNG or WebP and clear the background colour.
- 1080 × 1080 suits Instagram and most marketplaces; 400–800 px is enough for avatars.
Typical uses
- Instagram posts from landscape photos.
- Marketplace listings that require square product images.
- Album covers and podcast artwork.
- Accepts
- JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF
- Produces
- JPG, PNG, WebP
Your images stay on your device
This page processes images with your browser's canvas. Files are not uploaded to FileShareFast or anyone else, and your originals are never modified. Sharing is a separate, deliberate step: nothing is sent until you continue to the upload page and create a link yourself.
Re-encoding writes pixel data only, so EXIF and other metadata are not copied into outputs. Animated images are processed from their first frame. Check important images before submitting or printing them.
Frequently asked questions
Pad or crop: which should I use?
Pad when the whole subject matters, such as product shots or artwork. Crop when the subject is centred and the edges are unimportant, such as portraits or landscapes for a grid.
Can the padding be blurred or transparent?
Padding can be any solid colour or transparent (PNG/WebP). A blurred-background fill is not offered.
Will my image be enlarged?
In 'Pad' mode, no: a small image is centred at its natural size unless you enable upscaling. In 'Crop to fill' mode the image must cover the square, so a smaller source will be scaled up and the result card flags it.
